WASHINGTON JADE
WASHINGTON JADE

About Us and Policies

We at Washington Jade are rock and mineral addicts. We love rocks! And we love the search for rocks in our backyard.

Much of our time is spent in the beautiful mountains, rivers, streams, and canyons of our beloved state. We hope to share our jade findings and other local mineral info with you through this website.

By no means do I pretend to be the discover of the jade in the Stilly Valley. Long before me the true pioneers of local jade discovery searched the rivers and mountains of this area. The great town of Darrington was the hub of much of the early activity and much jade was produced. When I first moved to this area rock saws were still visible in yards in Darrington and Arlington. The first jade I saw was when I worked at C post across the river at the farm that was there in the 70's. It was found in Deer Creek. I began my jade search by researching all the old legal mining claims and going to each of them.

Washington Jade believes in and  follows a policy of full disclosure of known information about  specimens. Although its impossible to test each specimen we do test as much as we can and post our results on this site. If we determine that a specimen is not nephrite or other claimed mineral we remove it or place it in the appropriate place.

About This Website

I created this website early in 2007 as a labor of love to educate and celebrate the jade and other minerals of Washington State and especially the North Cascades of Snohomish and Skagit counties. I am responsible for all content and have always been and remain the sole owner. Every penny of the costs involved have come from my pocket. It will remain ad free and a mainly educational endeavor as long as I am able to afford to keep it that way. Please enjoy it. Jeff Aylor

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

I wish to thank the following people and institutions who have helped to make this website possible.

George Mustoe the great WWU educator who has to be one of Washingtons most valuable assets.

The Western Washington University Geology Department who support the pursuit of knowledge about our state with much effort and enthusiasm. Much of what is known about the North Cascades comes from their work.

The late Wes Wehr curator of the Burke Museum who helped me get started with rocks and minerals by encouraging my fossil collecting.

Lucky Case Jr. who helped me find some of Lucky Case Sr.'s (pioneer jade prospector in the area) many early jade mining claims when we worked together at Oso.

Ken Agren who even though he has stolen a lot of my jade out of the rivers(joke) was one of the few out there for many years and helped me get this site started by letting me use photographs of some of his specimens

Educational Institutions

We gladly supply small samples of jade to colleges and other institutions for testing and educational pursuits. We only ask that any results of work be shared openly with us and the public. Contact me for additional information.
