GROSSULAR GARNET
Massive grossular garnet from the North Cascade Mountains of Washington State. Find here boulders, river worn cobbles and bedrock specimens I have seen and collected in the last 15 years. I love this garnet of a thousand faces. From opaque to translucent, green, white, brown, yellowish it has more looks than any other local gemstone. It is confused with nephrite more than any other local rock as it mimics "moss-in-snow jadeite" in its white with green spots look and many of the other jade looks. It has been collected far before I began rocking and I have seen it in many local collections. Its been called hydrogrossular but the material I have had tested showed it as grossular though there are so many looks to it that could change. It is a beautiful gemstone that stands on its own. |
